about_picTim Burns was first elected to the Louisiana legislature in 2003 and currently serves as Chairman of the House and Governmental Affairs Committee. He has also served on the Committee on Highways, Transportation and Public Works and chair of the committee on Civil Law and Procedure.


While in the state legislature, Rep. Burns has distinguished himself as a staunch conservative and reformer and a proven fighter for change in such important areas as infrastructure improvement, tax reform and fiscal responsibility. During his 11 years in office, he has helped to secure more than $123 million for area road improvements.

He has been honored by the St. Tammany Parish Economic Development Foundation, the American Planning Association, the Louisiana Family Forum, the Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans and the Alliance for Good Government, which named him the Legislator of the Year.

Tim Burns is an attorney and Certified Public Accountant, who received his BA in economics (Phi Beta Kappa), MBA in finance and accounting and his JD (cum laude) from Tulane University. He currently serves as Vice President and General Counsel of Florida Marine Transporters, a leading marine transportation company.

He is the author of three published books on small business and self-improvement and an iPad educational app. He has served as an Adjunct Professor at Southeastern University.

Tim is married to Karen Richard Burns, and they have a 5 year old son, Vance
